Robertson County Gears Up for Annual Recovery Fest

On August 24, Robertson County Fairgrounds will host the highly anticipated annual Recovery Fest, an event that promises to bring the community together in support of those on the path to recovery.

The festival, organized by Robertson County Recovery Court Foundation and staff, celebrates the achievements of individuals who have experienced addiction or mental health issues firsthand or have been touched by them in some way. It is dedicated to fostering support and promoting awareness about the importance of recovery support services.

Filled with festivities and propelled by community spirit, Recovery Fest is planned as a day of hope for individuals and families affected by addiction. The festival is open to all members of the community wishing to learn more about addiction and mental health services, or for those simply wishing to participate in the festival.

Recovery Fest will feature activities and entertainment suitable for all ages. Attendees can look forward to live music and performances from local bands and artists, guest speakers offering inspiring stories of recovery, food vendors to satisfy all tastes, and family-friendly activities.

Additionally, the festival serves as a resource fair, with various organizations and support groups on hand to provide information and resources related to addiction recovery, mental health services, and community support.

More than simply a day of celebration, Recovery Fest is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Robertson County Recovery and Mental Health Courts. Established in 2014, these specialized court programs operate under the umbrella of the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

“We call them treatment courts, and they are designed to be a therapeutic alternative to traditional sentencing,” says Meagan Williamson, Director of the Robertson County Recovery and Mental Health Courts. “What we’ve found is that these courts are better served to aid in recidivism in that they actually treat the problem.”

Once accepted into the program, participants receive services designed to ensure successful re-entry into the community.

“We connect them with treatment, aid with housing, and help them sort through legal issues,” Meagan says. “Sometimes, they’re provided with individual therapy, and they attend 12-step support group meetings. Everything we do supports them in their recovery, so when they leave our program, which is 15 to 18 months in length, they’re prepared to be more productive members of the community.”

In addition to the Recovery and Mental Health Courts, Recovery Fest is intended to raise awareness about the Robertson County Recovery Center, which became a licensed Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) on February 1 of this year. The center offers a 16-week program that meets three nights a week for three hours. With classes taught by a licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselor, the program is the only intensive outpatient program in Robertson County and offers community members who are unable to seek out inpatient treatment the opportunity to avail themselves of outpatient resources.
