As someone who has been in the business of building houses since the tender age of 18, Dwayne Sword, owner of Double Edge Builders, LLC, knows that the secret to success is that you’re only as good as your word. 

A master carpenter known for his honesty, as well as meticulous attention to detail, Dwayne has built Double Edge Builders into a multimillion-dollar business in just over a year.

Creating homes and beautiful spaces has been a passion for Dwayne since his days growing up in South Georgia. “My entire family was either in construction and building houses or welding…I remember getting out of school and working on building cotton gins or helping my cousin with his roofing company on the weekends. I was also taught by an old school carpenter, who taught me how to do things right,” he says. 

Dwayne launched his first company, Sword Construction and Roofing, in 1998, serving Georgia, North Florida, and Florida until 2004, when he moved to Springfield, TN. There, Dwayne joined members of his family who had moved to the area several years prior, after staying behind to tend to his burgeoning business, as well as his ailing grandmother.

Once settled in Tennessee, Dwayne hit the ground running.

“I started my first company, Sword’s Custom Interiors—which I still own—after the move, trimming houses and doing floors all over Nashville and Brentwood,” describes Dwayne. Sword’s Custom Interiors went on to record its best year in 2020, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic.

While Sword’s Custom Interiors focused primarily on trim and flooring, Dwayne’s aspirations were a bit more expansive, leading him to launch Double Edge Builders, LLC, in 2021. A small, yet booming company, “Double Edge Builders just exploded. Right now, we have 10-12 full additions and renovations going on.”

As the business grew, Dwayne opened an office on the square in Springfield to provide a higher level of comfort to his clients and to maximize his presence within the community. According to Dwayne, “We’re doing hundreds of thousands of dollars in business, so I want people to be able to come down to 109 5th Ave., walk right into my office, and talk to someone.”

Dwayne credits the success of Double Edge Builders to his friendly personality and honesty. “I came from a little town in South Georgia that didn't even have a red light. We had one stop sign, and a traffic jam was a peanut wagon or cotton combine that you got caught behind and couldn't get around. Because of that, I don’t meet any strangers. I believe everybody I meet has been put in my path for a reason, and that a man's word is all you have. It’s about working hard and following through.”

Honesty, integrity, and quality are the hallmarks of Double Edge Builders business credo, and the secret to its success. “We put out a great product, and what I mean is that we don't slide on anything or cut corners. We do everything top notch, just the way I was taught to do it,” assures Dwayne.
