Steve was born in 1959 and raised in rural Western Kentucky. He fell in love with stories and storytelling sitting at the feet of his grandfather listening to the magical yarns that were spun by him and his eight brothers. Steve graduated from Austin Peay State University with a degree in history. He has worked in the retail food industry for over 45 years. Steve began writing later in life after receiving a subscription to Storyworth for Father’s Day from his daughter. He wanted to capture his memories on paper before he forgot them. He has a column with three local newspapers and was the 2022 Kentucky Editorialist of the Year for a small-town weekly newspaper. One of his lifelong friends, former Guthrie, Kentucky Mayor, Scott Marshall, says, “Steve isn’t one to let the truth get in the way of a good story.” Steve Haley spent his childhood in Guthrie, Kentucky during the 1960s and 1970s. He loves to recount the stories of his extraordinary ordinary upbringing in a small southern town with his family and friends.
