White House Farmers Market Bigger and Better than Ever

Summer is here! Well, technically it’s not according to the calendar, but the kids are almost out of school, and the White House Farmers Market (WHFM) is officially open, so it feels like summer anyway. My husband has been waiting for “good” tomatoes, and I am always up for not having to clean up after dinner, so we loaded the kids in the car and headed to the City Park. We were happy to find that WHFM was bigger and better than ever!

The market was started seven years ago and had just a few vendors, but over time it has grown tremendously. This year’s lineup boasted twice the number of vendors as last year with 26 individual booths and a record breaking turnout of over 250 shoppers in just the first hour. In total, there were an estimated 700-800 people who came to shop that day.

“I think we’ve grown so much because of the vendors who have poured so much into the market,” said Deana Phillips, Community Outreach Coordinator for the City of White House.  “The vendors are truly the heart of the White House Farmers Market and what allows it to grow.”

I’m here to tell you, she’s right. There were many beautiful produce displays and cool artisan products to choose from. Seriously, I had no idea someone could make a collection of lettuce heads look that pretty!

My husband, God love him, bought way too many tomatoes, and we picked up some amazing bread too. We enjoyed our dinner listening to the live music while the kids played on the playground after becoming “full” off just a few bites. Miraculously these children of mine found room in their stomachs for some Kona Ice and a treat from the Pink Truck, but I didn’t care. It’s summer, afterall. We’ll definitely be back next week to do it all again.

The Market is open every Wednesday from 3:30-7:00 at the White House City Park. Bring the family and grab dinner and some groceries for the week all in one stop! Wednesday, May 24, there will be a petting zoo located behind the pavilion that the kids will love.

P.S. There’s fair lemonade! Two year old Harris, (pictured below) sure did enjoy his!
