Rehearsals are underway for the second annual White House High School Alumni Theater production. Eight former students and one rising senior are set to perform the musical Nunsense, August 3-5 at the White House High School Theater. The show will run each night from 7 to 9 pm.
The play, written by Dan Goggin in 1985, is a two act musical comedy that centers around five nuns and their efforts to raise money to bury four of their sisters who have passed away. Antics ensue as the canonesses comedically orchestrate a variety show to relieve their financial burden.
“It pokes fun at some religious traditions but it's done respectfully,” said Margaret Broersma, Theater Teacher at WHHS.
Margaret or “Mrs. B” as her students call her, is a 10-year veteran teacher at WHHS with 32 school productions under her belt. Last year, a few of her former students approached Mrs. B and requested to do an alumni performance. Thus a new tradition was born.
“All other arts groups at WHHS do an alumni thing, and we wanted to do something too,” said Mrs. B, adding that the time commitment required to do a full length show is a lot more than non-theater people realize.
