Third Annual "A Day For Good" Set for July 20

What costs nothing, except a small investment of one’s time?

Volunteerism.

And nowhere will you find this servant-minded spirit more alive and well than in Tennessee – the Volunteer State. With that in mind, Goodlettsville’s Well House Church is seeking people of all ages to donate three hours on Saturday morning, July 20 for its third annual “A Day for Good” community service event.

Well House Pastor Steve Cunningham explains that “A Day For Good” provides a tangible opportunity to “support and encourage many local businesses, non-profits and individuals in the local area.” Last year’s event involved 107 volunteers who collectively logged 321 hours of service at various locations in the Goodlettsville area.

“There are a lot of people who care about our communities and want to make a positive difference,” says Pastor Steve. “Hearing what was on the hearts of many in our area led us to the creation of ‘A Day For Good.’ It brings everyone together for a common cause.”

The event will originate from the Millersville Community Center, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. At 9 a.m., volunteer work crews will head out to serve the following organizations:

-         Goodlettsville Middle School

-         Millersville Elementary School

-         Gateway Elementary School

-         Goodlettsville Elementary School

-         Foster Families Assistance Network

-         Keely’s Friends Dog Rescue

-         Millersville Library

-         Brookdale Senior Living

Another aspect of “A Day For Good” is a special project selected each year. This time around, Well House has partnered with city government, Lockwood Design & Construction, and Kore Construction to perform an extreme home makeover for two deserving widows in the community. The work will start prior to the day of the event, and on event day both recipients will return to their homes to see the finished product.

Pastor Steve notes that a new component of the event gives youngsters a chance to make a difference, too.

“We will have adults onsite at Millersville Community Center who will help kids who can’t go out to the work sites do some community projects,” he says. “It doesn’t matter the age; the whole family can be involved in serving our community.”

At noon, the teams will gather back at the Center for an “after party” celebration featuring food trucks, a DJ, and the magic of Stephen D. Gervais, aka “Magic Steve.”

“We couldn’t have ‘A Day For Good’ without the amazing support of the local business community,” Pastor Steve stresses. “We’ve gained more and more sponsors each year. It’s a blessing.”
