Author's Note: I'm Carolanne-Joy Kahler. I am a Junior at White House High School, and my favorite subject is English. I enjoy going on walks and writing poetry in my free time. After high school I want to major in secondary education- English and psychology.
It stood there as I walked by, the light glowing.
Its beautiful warm, orange light.
I didn't stop to look at it.
I was engulfed in my own world,
my own issues.
On my way back, I noticed the light went out.
I kept walking.
As I got closer the light flickered.
It came back on as I was under it.
I stood there this time for a brief moment,
admiring the street lamp-- its gorgeous, warm light that emits from it.
And what it does--slicing darkness, invading cold.
I walked away and could see its glow continue.
It's not about the streetlamp anymore.
It's about the effect we have on other people.
Be the person that turns the light back on for someone else.
Editor's Note: Thank you to Mr. Hilliard and White House High School for encouraging students to submit entries. It's in the writing that we find our individual voices and it's in the reading that we connect with one another. We at Stay Positive News are thrilled to highlight these young artists!
