“Patriot Through and Through:” Heritage Creates Award in Mark Reid’s Name

“I am community minded and want to help others.” - Mark Reid

These words, plucked straight from Mark Reid’s profile on LinkedIn, perfectly encapsulate what matters most to the lifelong White House resident and owner of Mark Reid Insurance for the past 35 years.

Being kind. Trustworthy. Supportive. Generous. All admirable traits, for certain.

Nowhere have these qualities been more in evidence than at White House Heritage High School, where Mark has been a positive presence from before construction began in July 2008, to the school’s opening in August 2010, to present day. He’s had a significant impact on the school’s athletic programs by leading fundraising efforts for new facilities and volunteering his time as a member of the boys’ basketball coaching staff (Mark was a hoops standout at White House High School, where he graduated from in 1979).

Little surprise, then, that when Heritage head football coach Scott Murray sought to name an award after someone who has shown unwavering dedication to his program and Patriots athletics in general, the person mentioned time and time again by others was Mark Reid.

Thus, the “Mark Reid Excellence in Support Award” was born.

“Mark is a Patriot through and through,” says Scott, who guided the football team to the playoffs in his first season at the helm in 2023. “He has done, and continues to do, so much for our athletic programs and our school. He’s a person of high character, too. I can’t think of anyone more deserving to have this award named after than Mark.”

Admitting that he’s not one to seek the limelight, Mark nonetheless says he’s “honored” to have his name associated with the Excellence in Support Award.

“I’ve always been more of a giver than someone who wants to receive,” says Mark. “But this is truly an honor. Both of [wife] Kim and I’s sons, Christian and Carson, were involved in sports and graduated from Heritage. I’m very, very proud to be a part of this school and the great community we live in.”

Mark’s quest, along with a team of other supporters, to build dedicated baseball, softball, soccer and football facilities on campus at Heritage led to the formation of a Capital Funds Committee. Serving as president, Mark spearheaded a drive that led to each team now having a home field to call its own.

“We were responsible for helping fund everything ‘up on the hill’ behind the school,” explains Mark. “We worked on one field at a time – soccer, then baseball, softball, and finally football. There was a lot of blood, sweat, and tears that went into getting it all done, but we’re so proud of the outcome for the kids.”

Though he was unable to personally hand out the inaugural Mark Reid Excellence in Support Award at the Jan. 31 Heritage Football Banquet due to an already scheduled business trip, Mark was able to congratulate the winners via a video he made prior to departing. Chris and Alecia Greer were selected as the first to have their names put on the award plaque.

Both Chris and Alecia were selected based on their many hours of service to the Heritage Touchdown Club, of which Chris is the president and Alecia serves on the board. Making it even more impressive is that the Greers have poured their commitment into the football program despite their children being involved in other sports at the school.

“We were surprised yet very honored,” says Alecia. “It’s special to be part of the program that Coach Murray and his staff are building. Chris and I have always had a heart to serve and do what we can for these kids. We’re humbled for this recognition.”
