SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. – The City of Springfield gathered with the Kiwanis Club of Springfield on Friday, March 8, for the grand opening of a new skate park at Garner Street Park, 200 N Garner Street.
The new skate park was made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Kiwanis Club of Springfield. Over the last ten years, the Kiwanis Club of Springfield has hosted fundraising events and matched donations, raising a total of $166,100. The City of Springfield funded the remainder of the project totaling $53,900.
Hunger Skateparks began construction in December 2023. The new skate park is accessible to the public during park hours.
“My goal is to fill our parks with amenities our residents and visitors can enjoy for years to come,” said Springfield Parks and Recreation Director Terry Martin. “We are excited to roll into a new era of excitement, fun, and community bonding as the skate park becomes a hub for our youth and young at heart.”
This project coincides with multiple planned upgrades to Garner Street Park which include the construction of a brand-new, ADA-compliant playground, the installation of two pickleball courts, and renovations to the restroom facilities.
