Lung Cancer Awareness: TriStar Northcrest Offers Low Dose Lung Cancer Screening

According to the CDC, Lung Cancer took the lives of 3,974 people in Tennessee, ranking it the most deadliest cancer affecting the state.

In response, TriStar Northcrest Medical Center in Springfield, TN has a simple solution known as a Low Dose Computed Tomography (CT) Scan that requires no preparation and no contrast injection to help detect lung cancer in its early stages. Additionally, a low dose CT scan offers less radiation than traditional CT scans, and they produce quality images for the physicians.

Patients who meet the following criteria are eligible for this screening:

Those ages 50-80 years old who have smoked an average of 1 pack per day for 20 years. This includes people who still smoke or have quit within the last 15 years.

By screening early, The goal of low dose CT is to find lung cancer in its early stages, which increases treatment options and survival rates. Finding these issues early on is what Sabrina Hall, R.T. (R) (ARRT), CRA, the Manager for Diagnostic Medical Imaging at TriStar Northcrest says it is one of the most rewarding parts of her job.

“(I love) Knowing that our team has the opportunity to positively impact people's lives with our technology and specialized training,” says Sabrina, who has been with TriStar for over 23 years.

With November being Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Sabrina and the team at TriStar Northcrest want to make patients aware of the importance of screening early.

“Lung cancer kills more people than breast cancer, colon cancer and prostate cancer combined,” says Sabrina. “A lung screening CT scan should be a regular preventative health check, just like a mammogram or colonoscopy. This low dose CT exam has shown to save lives by finding lung cancer early.”

So go ahead, get screened, and possibly save your life!
