Coretta Scott King once said, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”
When the snowy weather hit Middle Tennessee last week, many local residents found themselves trapped at home, but a few brave souls stepped up to help those in need, including Cottontown’s Cody Telford.
Cody, a father of two and owner of Cody Joe’s Diversified Services, typically supplements his income delivering with DoorDash during the winter months. When the snow started falling, Cody gassed up his Jeep, ready to cash in on all the folks not wanting to leave their home.
But then his conscience kicked in. “I got to thinking I bet people really do need help,” Cody said.
So Cody offered his assistance to anyone in need, free of charge, on social media, and the requests came pouring in.
Cody was able to help around 20 people that day, including a couple who needed to pick up their prescription medicine but were stranded at home.
Some of those assisted by Cody reached out on Facebook to express their gratitude, including Charlie West, who said: “Hey guys, Cody made a store run for me. He was so polite and got everything we needed. Great service in weather like this.”
“It was a really humbling experience," said Cody. “There’s nothing in this world that compares to the feeling of helping others.”
Although Cody didn’t charge for his services, he said many people paid “what they could” as a thank you.
“It turned into such a huge blessing,” Cody smiled, adding that the recognition that he is receiving is a little overwhelming.
Thanks to his thoughtfulness and kindness, blessings were felt all around during the white washed week, reminding us that there are many within our community willing to help their neighbors in a time of need.
