House Hunt: From Heartbreak to Happily Ever After

Helen Timberlake was meant to be a Realtor.

She just didn’t know it until she was looking for a new career in a post Covid world.

It’s funny how the shutdown in 2019, a global nightmare, brought many unexpected positive changes. Helen, who readily admits she can’t sit still, used her time during quarantine to pursue a career that has now led her to be one of the top affiliate brokers at her agency.

Prior to her Real Estate career, Helen was a Certified Meeting Planner and worked for the esteemed Opryland Hotel, coordinating every last detail for a variety of Conventions and meetings they hosted there. Like many others, Helen was furloughed during the country wide shutdown.

When her furlough got extended again and again, she started to think about other options. Having always been fascinated with houses, good with people, and understanding of business contracts, it was a no-brainer for Helen to go after her real estate license.

Nearly three years later, she has helped countless families in middle Tennessee find happiness through real estate transactions, and though the market has changed a lot since she first started, her dedication to her clients and thorough thinking has not wavered.

“I started in 2020 when the market was going bananas. Every deal I did, everyone was like, ‘okay this is not usual,’” said Helen. “As we continued on, my broker reminded me that there is no standard or normal. There’s always a unique issue in each transaction, but there’s always a way to solve it.”

Helen certainly was motivated by this advice and keeps it in the forefront of her mind as she conducts business. In one particular instance, she spent a span of four months looking at over 50 houses with one family until they were able to find “the one.”

The couple first reached out to her in February 2021. “They were very organized,” Helen stated. “He came with a well-defined budget, a list of must haves, and list of deal breakers, but he was still open minded and willing to look at everything even if it didn’t check every box.”

They had lived in what was supposed to be their starter home for over 30 years and owned it outright. Now they were looking in Sumner or Robertson county for an updated home that was all one level and on a lot with some privacy.

Together the three of them looked at a lot of houses, and many of the homes were close to what they needed but not quite right.

“A lot of times agents and buyers can get frustrated going to 30 to 40 showings, but I understood exactly where they were coming from and knew if we kept looking we would eventually find the perfect home for them,” recalled Helen.

One day they found a house that checked almost all their boxes. This home even had a pool which they were a bit nervous about but knew the grandkids would be excited to have for when they visited. Unfortunately, the house was extremely popular, and although the couple placed a strong offer, they were beat out by another bid. Even though it wasn’t exactly perfect, they were heartbroken after they’d thought the search was finally over.

After that, the buyers wanted to take a break, and Helen respected that. She said that she would continue to keep her eye out for them until they were ready to start looking again.

The very next day a new listing popped up that fit their needs, and Helen believed it could be the perfect house. She called the couple and asked them if they would like to go see it. They considered it over night and called her back the next day agreeing to go.

“As soon as we pulled up, I just felt that this would be the one,” recalls Helen. “It had a lot of other things they didn’t even think to put on their list: a huge garden, a covered deck. It was below budget and had no other offers yet.”

They put in an offer, and it was accepted. After over 120 days of looking, they found their happily ever after in their dream house— all because Helen believed their perfect was out there… it just needed to be found.

This isn’t the only positive experience Helen has delivered throughout her career. Other clients have said:

“Helen is an incredible agent and person. Her energy and spirit are unsinkable and she made the often overwhelming house hunting process really enjoyable.”

“Helen was very positive and upbeat. When we had questions she was very responsive. We felt like we were her only clients."

“Patient, observant, persistent, calm, low stress, no pressure, your-needs-wants-first, zero up sale. Just a joy to deal with. A truly lovely lady. You will be very glad you worked with her.”

If you are looking to buy or sell a home, Helen would love to help you, and she will treat you at the same level she has served many before. Don’t hesitate to reach out to her!
