Springfield, Tenn- United Way of Greater Nashville’s volunteer program Hands On (UWGN) needs volunteers to support Springfield non-profit Robertson County Flag Football League’s (RCFFL) community day of action on February 20th.  RCFFL will use fields located at the Bransford Community Center as their home field.  The area is in disrepair and has also been vandalized. RCFFL sponsors and day of action volunteers will allow the fields to be playable for the spring season for Springfield youth.  

RCFFL was created as a non-profit organization to bring flag football to the youth of Robertson County and surrounding areas. The organization's ultimate purpose is to allow all youth who wish to participate in an organized sport the opportunity regardless of their economic means. Through their partnership with the NFL, the organization can bring a high level of flag football competition to this community. RCFFL is also in partnership with NHL Street Hockey among other sporting events they are embarking on.

“We hope the community really rallies behind us! By revitalizing the area, we want to bring hope, dreams, and vision to these kids, which is key to their growth and progression,” said Tiffany Thomson, UWGN Community Impact Manager, Robertson County.

“The conduit to this project stemmed from RCFFL bringing the 14-year-old team to the field for an exhibition game.  Many local Bransfield alumni were there expressing how great it was to see kids playing on the field again.  Seeing how well that game went, and the response of attendees and players, sparked the idea of making Bransfield our home,” said Randall Alexander, RCFFL President.

“As a Springfield native, I remember playing here as a young boy. This part of town is not being utilized currently, and we want to bring youth sports back to Bransfield Community Center. We are connecting the dots to make a better community,” said David Walker, Youth Services Officer, Roberston County Juvenile Courts.
