“Ice Ice Baby” is what Middle Tennessee residents have been craving this past week.
Hunkering down inside, sipping chilled drinks, and hovering over air conditioning vents is the typical posture during these blazing summer days. So what happens when an A/C unit breaks? It’s not just uncomfortable, it’s dangerous.
Electrolux, a division of Frigidaire, is fighting that danger with a hometown approach. The international company is giving away 500 window air conditioning units to qualified recipients with valid vouchers on Tuesday, August 29, from 8am until noon at TNKids Nutrition located at 1006 Pepper Street, Springfield, TN.
Vouchers are available for those that live at 200% of the poverty guidelines and can be picked up at six different locations throughout the city. See the attached flier below for a list of these locations.
“Many people would be caught off guard if their A/C broke,” says Tiffany Thompson, Community Impact Manager for Robertson County United Way. According to the latest census information, the average household income for Tennesseans falls into that 200% poverty category. These are the people Electrolux is helping, “Putting the company’s purpose of shaping living for the better into action,” states Tiffany.
The international company called Tiffany a few months ago and shared their desire to impact Springfield residents. “Because they have a factory here, they are wanting to give back to this community,” said Tiffany.
It’s not the first time Frigidaire has intentionally invested in the Springfield community. Last year they did a Thanksgiving Box give away to hundreds of Springfield families. The North Carolina based company has also donated kitchen supplies to citizens in the past. “They want to make sure the communities their employees are living in are thriving,” said Tiffany. For these sweltering August days, their generous donation couldn’t come at a better time.
Are sweat beads dotting your forehead as you read this, or is your neighbor dragging another box fan into his house? Why not be a conduit of cool relief?
Tiffany encourages all SPN readers to spread the word. “We want everyone who needs a unit to know that they can get one.”
Frigidaire executives are coming in from North Carolina, and members of the press are expected to be in attendance. “I wanted to be sure our local people were part of the celebration as well,” said Tiffany. “We haven’t given away as many vouchers as we had hoped. I really want all of the units designated for us to go to Springfield families,” she added.
So spread the word. Grab a voucher. Show up and shower the air with celebration this Tuesday. Cool never felt so good!
