During this month’s 1st Fridays event, the City of Springfield proudly unveiled upgrades to “Jail Alley” in downtown, including new lighting, seating, signage, and seasonal landscaping. These enhancements are part of an ongoing initiative to revitalize downtown by the Springfield Main Street Committee. Support for this project came from Historic Springfield Event Coordinators, the Pollinators Society of Robertson County, and collaboration with several city departments: community development, public works, water, and gas. Local company, Maker Table Metal, designed, fabricated and installed the front decorative gate (2019) and the newly installed overhead archway and seating.
“Jail Alley holds significant historical value for downtown,” said Springfield Tourism Coordinator Ace Timmermeier. “These upgrades have revitalized a once unused alleyway and created a new community gathering spot among our downtown merchants.”
