Bringing Baby Galvan Home

The beauty in adoption often lies in its intention—a choice to open heart and home to another. It is a decision that gives breath to redemption.

As Sammie Galvan says, “Adoption isn’t a cure for infertility. It is a decision to bless a child and an expectant mother.”

Such is the case for Sammie and her husband, Gabe. High School sweethearts who married shortly after graduating college, Sammie and Gabe are best friends who’ve spent a decade dreaming of starting a family together.

An unexpected infertility diagnosis left them heartbroken. “We weren’t sure what to do next,” says Sammie, “but we started learning about adoption and doing research. This is something we prayed about a lot.” Melding online research with true stories from family and friends who’ve gone through the process, the Galvan’s started pursuing adoption.

Sammie recalls how steeped this whole decision season was in prayer. “We asked God for clear signs on next steps,” she says. “That week at church, our pastor preached about adoption in the church and in families. There was our sign. We left church that day in tears but for the best possible reason.”

Clarification strengthening Sammie and Gabe, they sought the support of an adoption agency. After 6 months, they were matched with an expectant mother only to have the adoption process disrupted. Heartbroken again, the Galvan’s chose to push through.

“About three weeks later, our agency reached out to us saying we were the top pick for an expectant mother,” shares Sammie. “We were elated! We sent her some information and she instantly knew we were the family she wanted to place her baby with. It’s been a dream! We are so thankful God allowed her to choose us and to have this amazing relationship with her.”

Baby Galvan is due at the end of January. As the date draws near, the adoption fees become more daunting. Gabe got a second job to assist with the expenses. The couple has been doing fundraisers, including selling a t-shirt designed for them by a friend, and organizing a service project for a widow through Both Hands. (Watch about that project here.)

An on-line auction going on now through Saturday, September 21st, allows merchants to donate items. Supporters can make purchases knowing that 100% of those proceeds are going to bring Baby Galvan home.

“We have been so blessed and thankful for our friends, family, and community for all of their help,” says Sammie.
