April Students of the Month: Erika Buckett & Abby Page

Congratulations to Erika Buckett and Abby Page, seniors at White House Heritage High School, for being honored as the students of the month for April.

Erika and Abby were nominated by their principal, Kim Hass, who says both young women are top academicians in their class and leaders for their peers.

"As a principal, you don't see a lot of kids who represent Heritage this well, and they both do," says Hass. "They are both determined and have always known what they've wanted to do and just gone for it. They love Heritage and love what they do."

Both Erika and Abby share multiple passions and are good friends because of it-- from taking Air Force Jr ROTC classes together at Springfield High School as part of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, wrestling together for Heritage's team, and getting their private pilot license from the AFJROTC Flight Academy in Pensacola, FL-- it made sense to honor them both as April's student of the month.

Despite having similar High School experiences, Erika and Abby will be headed in different directions this fall to begin their college careers.

Erica was accepted to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a full scholarship. West Point is known for being a prestigious school that requires an official nomination letter from either a senator or congressman from one’s home state. Erica completed interviews with the offices of Senators Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn, and Congressman Mark Green. She received nominations from all three of them. Kim Hass also wrote a letter to the legislation on Erica's behalf.

Erica was the first member of her current JROTC Unit to be accepted to this prestigious military training facility.

Abby will be attending Auburn University, where she also earned a full scholarship and will be a part of their top ranked aviation program. Additionally, Abby was just recognized by the City of White House for her wrestling accomplishments. She clinched the 2024 Region 3, 114-pound Champion title after her impressive 14-3 season record, and then she fearlessly battled to the State Tournament, claiming a well-deserved 4th place!

"They both will do amazing things. Kids here are motivated by their presence, leadership, and guidance," says Kim Hass.
