A city-service club collaboration resulting in the addition of a new skate park to Garner Street Park is set to be unveiled March 8

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. – The City of Springfield will join the Kiwanis Club of Springfield at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8 for the grand opening of the new skate park located at Garner Street Park, 200 Garner Street.

The new skate park was made possible thanks to a collaboration between the Kiwanis Club of Springfield and the City of Springfield. Over the last ten years, the Kiwanis Club of Springfield has hosted fundraising events and matched donations, raising a total of $166,100. The City of Springfield funded the remainder of the project totaling $53,900.

“The new skate park provides a designated location where the community can enjoy skating without automotive or pedestrian traffic,” said Terry Martin, Springfield Parks & Recreation Director. “We can’t thank the Kiwanis Club of Springfield enough for everything they’ve done to make this happen.”

Following the grand opening, the new skate park will be accessible to the public during park hours.

This project coincides with multiple planned upgrades to Garner Street Park which include the construction of a brand-new, ADA-compliant playground, the installation of two pickleball courts, and renovations to the restroom facilities.
